Have an Event You Want Promoted?
Ankeny's biggest party of the summer is decorating for Christmas. This weekend's SummerFest lands under a "Jingle in July" theme — snowmen, candy canes and twinkling lights in 90-degree heat — and it's the front end of a genuinely stacked week: a council vote tonight, a new business opening Tuesday, and prep postseason tipping off Friday. Let's roll. 🚲

🎄 The big one: SummerFest turns The District into Christmas in July
The Ankeny Chamber's signature festival is back July 10–12 at The District at Prairie Trail (1500 SW Main St), and this year it's leaning all the way into a curveball theme: "Jingle in July." Think twinkling lights, snowmen, gingerbread and candy canes — the whole holiday kit, dropped into the middle of summer.
Here's the weekend at a glance. It opens Friday with Family Fun Night at the Ankeny Market & Pavilion (715 W. First St.) from 4–8 p.m., capped by the Kiddie Parade around 6:30 p.m. The centerpiece is Saturday's Grand Parade, which stages at Ankeny High School (1155 SW Cherry St.) at 9 a.m. and winds a little under two miles through town before spilling into The District. From there the festival rolls through the weekend with a carnival, live music, a new Lip Sync Contest, a Kiwanis pancake breakfast Saturday morning at the Ankeny Band Shell, and fireworks to close it out.
One sign of how big this has gotten: Polk County signed on as a platinum sponsor this year, putting county dollars behind a festival that already draws tens of thousands to Prairie Trail.

🏛️ Quick hit: your city council meets tonight
While you're planning the weekend, the Ankeny City Council meets tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Kirkendall Public Library Council Chambers (1250 SW District Dr.). Two items are worth watching.
The first is a rezoning: the council takes up a request to flip a parcel owned by Legacy Housby, LLC from R-1 (single-family residential) to M-1 (light industrial) — first consideration of Ordinance 2262, following a public hearing. The second vacates part of a sanitary sewer easement (Ordinance 2263). Also on the consent agenda: liquor-license approvals and the June 15 minutes.

🎗️ Quick hit: On With Life gets an Amazon Hub
Tuesday brings a small but neighborly milestone. The Chamber holds a ribbon cutting at noon on Tuesday, July 7 for a new Amazon Hub at On With Life (715 SW Ankeny Rd.) — the Ankeny-based brain-injury rehabilitation center. The Hub adds convenient package pickup and drop-off at the campus; the public ribbon cutting runs about a half hour.

🌡️ Weather: the heat is gone
What a difference a week makes. After a stretch of extreme-heat warnings and 100-plus heat indices, the humidity has flushed out and Ankeny is looking at a picture-perfect run.
Today (Monday): Patchy morning fog before 8 a.m., then mostly sunny, high near 85°. East wind around 5 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, low around 65°.
Tuesday: Sunny, high near 87°, light south-southeast wind.
Looking ahead: More sunshine into midweek, highs in the upper 80s — ideal SummerFest weather on the horizon.
Reminder: lawns are on the Stage 2 even/odd schedule — and no watering on Mondays, so today's a rest day for the sprinklers regardless.

🚲 Local Business Spotlight: Kyle's Bikes
You don't have to own a bike to ride the High Trestle this weekend. Kyle's Bikes will rent you one.
The family-owned shop bills itself as Iowa's premier rental fleet — reserve a performance hybrid, road, gravel or electric bike and roll straight onto the trail, no garage full of gear required. That rental-first angle is the differentiator in a metro where most shops just sell and service. Kyle's does plenty of both, too: expert mechanics who "work on all bikes" — not only what they sell — plus professional bike fitting and free weekly group rides.
It's grown into three metro storefronts, two of them in Ankeny near the trails.
