Don't be fooled by the open-window weather. Ankeny is cruising through an almost-fall stretch — upper 70s, a light breeze — but it's a setup. By Sunday the forecast hits 93°, Monday 94°, and your lawn has to face it without a drop from the hose. Let's roll. 🚲
☀️ Mild now — but the 90s are coming
Enjoy today. Ankeny tops out near 78° under increasing clouds, with only a stray overnight shower in the forecast — a comfortable, breezy stretch that holds right through Friday. Then summer reasserts itself: the National Weather Service has Ankeny near 93° on Sunday and 94° on Monday, both windy.
Here's the catch for anyone already eyeing a browning yard. The region's mandatory lawn-watering ban is still in effect. Central Iowa Water Works issued the Stage 3 ban on June 8 over high nitrate levels in the rivers it pulls drinking water from, and it hasn't been lifted — so as the heat builds this weekend, the sprinklers stay off. The lone exception is newly laid sod or seed, watered to the bare minimum.
The upside: you've got a genuinely pleasant week to get outside before the heat lands. Use it.

🏛️ Quiet week at City Hall
No City Council last night, and none this week — the next regular meeting isn't until July 6. It's a rare lull at City Hall in the middle of construction season. If you've got something you want on the record, that July 6 meeting is the next open door — we'll preview the agenda as soon as it posts.

🌦️ Weather: easy now, hot later
Today (Tuesday): Increasing clouds, high near 78°. Just a stray shower possible overnight.
Wednesday: Early clouds give way to sun, high near 82°.
The weekend & beyond: Warming fast — mid-80s Saturday, then 93° Sunday and 94° Monday.

🩺 Local Business Spotlight: Ankeny Family Counseling
Most counseling practices pick a lane — kids, or couples, or older adults. Ankeny Family Counseling, off SW Plaza Shops Lane, takes all of them: therapy for children, teens, adults, and elders 65 and up, under one roof.
The range of approaches is unusually wide for a single practice. Alongside standard talk therapy, the team offers EMDR — a structured trauma therapy that uses guided eye movements to help the brain reprocess painful memories — plus CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy, which targets the thought patterns behind anxiety and depression), Christian counseling, and even sports psychology for athletes. The practice also notes it keeps LGBTQIA-friendly therapists on staff.
Founded by Vicki Ailey-Roberson, it's built for families who'd rather not send each member to a different clinic across town.
The basics:
🧠 Individual & family therapy, all ages (kids to 65+)
🧩 EMDR, CBT, Christian counseling, sports psychology
📍 1910 SW Plaza Shops Ln, Ankeny · ☎️ (515) 508-1150

The heat wave is over, but the water worry isn't: rain or shine, the nitrate-driven Stage 3 watering ban stays put, so keep the sprinklers off. Meanwhile, Centennial softball sits one swing from the record book.
Tomorrow: the Centennial–Ankeny rivalry closes the regular season tonight with a state home-run record within reach — we'll set the stage, plus what else is moving around town.
