The LA Mayor Market Ends June 2. The Odds Are Moving Now.
Karen Bass is at 68%. Spencer Pratt at 27%. Over $21 million is already trading on the Los Angeles Mayor race on Kalshi — and the prices are shifting every day as local news breaks. The window to get in before the consensus hardens is closing. The best prediction market trades happen before everyone agrees on the outcome. That moment is right now, before June 2. The fastest 110-meter hurdle race anybody in Iowa has ever run now lives in Ankeny. Senior Hayden Carlson clocked 13.52 at Drake Stadium Saturday — three hundredths of a second faster than the previous all-time Iowa best — and as the school year wraps up, one Ankeny mom of 15 homeschool years has three coaching spots open for next year. Let's roll. 🚲
🏃 The hurdle nobody in Iowa has ever run faster
At the Class 4A boys' state track meet at Drake Stadium last Saturday, Ankeny senior Hayden Carlson ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.52 seconds. It is now the fastest 110H any Iowa high schooler has ever run — anywhere, any class, any year.
The mark he broke had been set just thirteen months earlier: Cedar Rapids Prairie's Quinton Alexander ran 13.55 at the 2025 Drake Relays, which had been treated as the Iowa ceiling ever since. Carlson's run pushes it three hundredths lower. Three hundredths sounds tiny until you remember it's roughly the time between two consecutive hurdle steps — and it's now permanent record-book ink.
The wider Hawks story is already in the book too. The boys' team finished in the top three of Class 4A overall, behind champion Waukee Northwest (150.5 points) and runner-up Cedar Falls, capping a state meet that also produced an all-time Iowa girls' 1600m sprint medley record (Bruening, Buckley, Fisher, Madetzke, 3:55.44) and a third-place girls' team trophy.
⚡ Quick hits
Hawks baseball opens the road trip at Waukee tonight. Ankeny High plays a doubleheader at the Waukee Softball/Baseball Complex, first pitch 5 p.m., nightcap 7 p.m. It's the Hawks' first competitive look at Waukee this season. Hawks baseball schedule

📚 Local Business Spotlight: 15 Years In, Three Spots Open

Most homeschool advice on the internet comes from somebody two years in. Jeanette McBee has been homeschooling for fifteen — long enough to have already graduated one kid (now at Wheaton College) and still be teaching another through her teen years.
She runs Homeschool Help with Jeanette, a coaching practice for Ankeny-area parents trying to figure out if they can actually pull this off. The next round of her Parent Coaching Track runs July through November — three clients only, customized homeschool plan built for your family, curriculum picks you can stop second-guessing, and ongoing support so the simple stuff stays simple. She also co-hosts Homeschool for the Win, a podcast with a homeschool dad.
Translation: this is the right month to grab a spot if next school year is the one you've been considering.
The basics:
📚 15 years homeschooling · Parent Coaching Track: July–November (3 client openings)
🎙️ Co-host of Homeschool for the Win podcast
📍 Ankeny-area · 1-on-1 coaching

⚡ Today's Takeaway
The fastest 110-meter hurdle race in Iowa history now belongs to an Ankeny senior — Hayden Carlson, 13.52, all-class, all-time. And while the school year is closing, one local homeschool coach is opening her July–November track to three new families — if the question of "could we actually homeschool next year?" is on your kitchen table, today is the day to ask it.
Tomorrow: Friday's weekend rundown — Sips & Songs at The District (Pork Tornadoes + People's Band), the graduation-Saturday eat-and-run plan, and the weekend restaurant pick we've been saving.
